How Will Oil Spill Impact the Economy?

This oil spill has been going on for two months, and we still don’t have any permanent fix for this disaster. TWO MONTHS, let me repeat it, because sometimes I still can’t believe that it’s been over two months since this travesty began. To boot, the guy who’s been handling it all until recently, seemed very nonchalant about American’s concerns over what is a major environmental disaster. He has made comments that BP cares about the “little people” in the gulf, which infuriated those that are impacted.

Then, one of his other biggest faux pas was that he said no one wants this ordeal to be over more than he does so that his life can return to normal. Then, he takes time off form the gaffe to go to some posh yacht race. I’m sure there are millions of gulf residents whose livelihoods depend on the sea that would like their lives to return to normal too, but hey, that’s just not gonna happen.

And they don’t still earn millions for being a crappy spokesperson in a time of crisis like he does. Recently though, his duties as the primary handler for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill have been handed over. I think BP finally figured out that people weren’t warming to this guy, who has the bedside manner of a gnat in this situation.

The questions that remain are how is the oil spill ultimately going to impact not only the environment, but also the already touchy, fragile economy that we have been experiencing for almost three years now? Some think that it will make gas prices go up even further, or that it may just impact the deficit even further since the government is going to have to step in.

But has anyone though about how badly this is going to affect tourism? I don’t know about you, but I’m seriously reconsidering that beach side vacation I was going to take early next year now. It was going to be in Mexico most likely, and now we are seriously reconsidering this until the situation is taken care of and the beaches are safe and the water is safe to swim in. How do you think this tragic gulf oil spill will ultimately impact our economy, and also our environment?
