Many People Giving Up, Looking for Jobs Overseas

With the job market here in the US still looking pretty dire, even after the reported 160 some thousand jobs added in 2010 so far, the biggest jump in job offerings being added in over 3 years here, many people are finding that they are having to expand their options. I guess a more appropriate word would be expanding their horizons though. This has actually presented unique opportunities for some to go abroad in search for opportunities.

However, the interesting caveat here is that the economy is depressed, sometimes even more so, in other parts of the country right now as well. Just look at the situation in Greece that came to light recently. European countries aren’t exactly doing so swell either.

But the fact is, that some countries are still offering more niche opportunities to people who can’t find jobs in the US right now, so people are really being kind of forced to go abroad, at least for a while, until the US economy stabilizes and jobs come back in full force. Until we are restored to our former “land of opportunity” glory, in other words.

It’s not just job seekers though, it’s also people who already have a job who are taking their employer up on an overseas, or even out of state opportunity to avoid laying off. Or perhaps they are taking it because the opportunities have dried up in their alma mater, and they really need to take something else.

This exact thing is happening to people at my husband’s job. People are taking jobs out of state because they are afraid their center may close down, and also because the opportunities have frozen up there since there are no new jobs and very little natural attrition opening up new jobs for them to try out of move up to.
